Sulfo-SMCC
Description
Sulfo-SMCC is a water-soluble heterobifunctional protein crosslinker. Sulfo-SMCC protein crosslinker contains an amine reactive Sulfo-NHS ester on one end, which increases its water solubility, and a maleimide functional group that can be utilized to react specifically with cysteines or sulfhydryl (-SH) groups. The maleimide functional group does not readily react with lysine or amino group (-NH2), thus maleimide activated conjugates can be readily prepared for later utilization. This makes Sulfo-SMCC ideal for preparing antibody-enzyme conjugates.
The heterobifunctional nature of Sulfo-SMCC gives it a wide range of uses for both small molecule reactions and large biomolecule applications. Sulfo-SMCC is perhaps one of the most common reagents used in the creation of enzyme labelled antibodies, other bioconjugates, and activated antibodies available for further reactivity. As opposed to other maleimide activated antibodies, those made with SMCC or Sulfo SMCC crosslinkers are often more stable, due to the inductive stabilizing effects of the cyclohexyl ring moeity.
